The Ash Tree

lyrics

The Ash Tree

Climbing the staircase
in an hour of silence,
I rolled the stone
upward,
but I could never reach you
(I could never reach you)

You never tried,
with your rites
I was hypnotized.
In your wake
I lived and died
with sharpened knives
and loaded dice,
winter light
and revelry,
petrified
by what I've seen,
but tonight
we'll never leave
and fall into a bed of leaves.

The taste of iron
on tongues of the humble,
like a starlit dome;
so removed and final.
I walked alone
in the ruins of our castle,
they burnt the oaks
and the flames
consumed us all.

Don't need courage
if I'm cold enough,
your frost bitten
fingers bleed.
'Pain ain't nothing
but a distant thought'
and some rivers
run too deep.

You never tried,
with your eyes
I was hypnotized.
In your wake
I lived and died
with sharpened knives
and loaded dice,
winter light
and revelry,
petrified
by what I've seen,
but tonight
we'll stop the dream
and fall asleep
in a bed of leaves.

Reach you. I could never...
