Pale Rain of the West Wind

from Farewell to the Stranger by Nietzu

/

lyrics

Pale Rain of the West

Are you pale for weariness,
of climbing heaven
and gazing upon the earth,
wandering companionless,
among the stars
that have a different birth,

Ever changing
like a joyless eye,
that finds no object
worth it's constancy.

The fitful alterations of the rain,
When the chill wind,
languid as with pain
of it's own heavy moisture
here and there,
drives through the gray
and beamless atmosphere.

You on whose stream
mid the steep sky's commotion,
loose clouds, earth's decaying leaves
are shed.

Shook from the tangled
boughs of heaven and ocean.

This is the dirge of the dying year
to which this closing night
will be the dome
of the sepulchre
vaulted with your might.

(Adapted lines from the works of Percy Bysshe Shelley.)
