Grief Under the Dule Tree

from Farewell to the Stranger by Nietzu

/

lyrics

Grief Under the Dule Tree

Destroy you with sorrow,
take no pleasure in duty,
with a heavy heart
raise a heavy blade

(in sorrow)

I shall weep as the hammer falls upon you,
the solemnity of a white knuckle ritual.

What must be done,
is done.

The clouds are low around our brows,
and hanging from the boughs;
they cling to headless hilltops
and the retinas of dawn.

Inner compulsion sealed our destiny,
forever fixed to stricken skies
and silhouettes of looming gallows.

(I won't) look away from the slaughter,
the burden has been placed
on the scales of a blind maiden
and I wager the weight is balanced.
